Frequently asked questions
General
No. Children receive PT for general developmental concerns, low muscle tone, or motor delays, as well as specific conditions like Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or torticollis.
Sessions often look like play! Therapists use games and specialized activities to improve skills, making sessions engaging for the child while targeting strength, balance, and coordination.
In Florida, patients may start treatment immediately without seeing a physician first. This process is called direct access which allows you 30 days to be seen by a licensed PT without a physician referral for a condition not previously assessed by the physician. While Florida law allows direct access, some insurance plans might still require a physician referral for reimbursement.
Most appointments are 45-60 minutes, with the highest frequency of visits often occurring early in the therapy plan to build a strong foundation.
Signs may include missed milestones (rolling, sitting, crawling, walking), asymmetrical movement, infant looking to one side (torticollis), poor balance, constant "w-sitting," excessive clumsiness, or toe walking.
